A better plan starts with knowing your options.

There is support available to help New Zealand manufacturers reduce gas use. Here’s what the main pathways mean for your business.

01 / Investment support

Gas Transition Loan Guarantee Scheme

A Government-backed scheme supporting up to $1.2 billion of bank loans for businesses moving away from gas.

  • For businesses operating in New Zealand using at least 1,000 GJ of gas a year.
  • New loans only, for energy efficiency, fuel switching and other gas-reducing technology.
  • The project must be expected to reduce gas use by at least 15%; producing less does not count.
  • Participating banks: ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank and Westpac.
  • Up to $50 million per borrower.
  • The scheme runs for three years.
  • The Crown guarantees 80% of each eligible loan, in exchange for lower interest.

Your participating bank confirms lending requirements and final terms. A guarantee is not a grant, and the borrower remains responsible for repayment.

02 / Assessment support

EECA co-funding

Support to understand which energy improvements make sense before you invest. These products are for piped-gas users: a NZ-registered business that owns or manages the plant, using an independent provider.

Sites spending $250,000–$400,000 can choose from both lanes.

Walk-through audits and options assessments require an EECA-approved provider. A walk-through audit includes a site visit and short report with at least three efficiency opportunities, technology options, indicative savings and capital scale. An options assessment provides a costed comparison of options and a recommended pathway.
